The BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo is a five-door saloon and 4 or 5 places that will be available in late 2009. Derived from the prototype BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo Concept.
It is one of three body that will be marketed under the name of Series 5, along with the saloon and Touring (family), but is longer than them and also higher: measuring 4.99 m long, 1.55 m high and 1.90m wide (like the prototype of which is derived). For dimensions and other features appear to be based on a 7 Series, not in a Series 5 model with whom he shares the battle (3.07 m).
Be available with three engines, two petrol and one Diesel. The first is a 3.0 of 306 hp (535i GT) and a 4.4 V8 407 hp (550i GT). The Diesel is a 3.0 245 HP (GT 530d).
All Gran Turismo Series 5 are rear, although it may later have some traction with full version (as announced when BMW introduced the prototype).
BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo. Model 2010.Los three engines are coupled to a gearbox eight-speed automatic, which takes the BMW 760i. The 535i GT consumes 8.9 l/100 km on average 11.2 l/100 km and the 550i GT. The 530d GT spends 6.5 litres/100 km (datasheets).
The 5 Series Gran Turismo will be an alternative to models like the Mercedes-Benz CLS, Porsche Panamera and Maserati Quattroporte, but is rather higher than all of them (13 cm more than the Panamera and 12 more than the CLS and the Quattroporte) . A 5 Series sedan is 8 cm lower.
The 5 Series Gran Turismo series has five seats, but will also be available with four (the central seat in the rear is replaced by a console with cupholders and storage space, image).
As in the prototype, the doors have no frame (image). The bonnet and doors are made of aluminum. According to BMW, the use of this material in the doors is a significant saving in weight of 28 kg compared to some made of steel.
Also inherits the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo Concept where the trunk opens in two parts, similar to the Skoda Superb. You can access it through a small cap, as in a saloon (image), or by lifting the entire door (image). Has a capacity of 440 liters, but can reach up to 1700 liters with the rear seats completely shot.
Another option to increase cargo space. If the rear seats forward (up to 10 cm), it is possible to leave objects between the backrest and the element of separation of the passenger compartment and the trunk. BMW claims that with the seats in the more advanced position, the space for the occupants of the rear seats is equivalent to a 5 Series sedan.
The element that separates the passenger and Maler can also drop their mounts above (the bottom is fixed), and remain supported against the backrest, so you do not bother if you want to carry bulky objects. According to BMW, the gain and volume is 150 liters (440 liters with the seats in their rearmost position 590 with fully developed).
Exterior design
The line of the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo is similar to the X6, especially in the fall of the roof, but the body is closer to the ground. The front is very similar to the 7 Series, except the lower bumper and fog lamps. The design of the bonnet is also similar to the 7 Series.
The back features shared with the X6 and 7 Series. Unlike the latter, the reflectors are not located in the bottom of the bumper near the exhaust (picture), but the gate next to the upper trunk (image). Be available in 12 body colors. One Red (Damascus) is unique to the 5 Series Gran Turismo.
Both the headlights as the pilots have a design very similar to those of the 7 Series. Still, the headlights are different because they have a ring-shaped light with LEDs that function as position lamp (standard) or daylight (versions with dual-xenon headlights are optional). In the latter case can be operated with double intensity: 10% as light position and the maximum power as daylight (image).
BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo. Model 2010.Los intermittent and pilots also have LEDs. The latter, almost the same as the 7 Series, are linked by a chrome molding.
All versions carry tires "Run Flat", which can shoot without pressure and a reduced speed for a few kilometers. GT versions 535i and 530d have the GT series alloy wheels with 18''tires of 245/50, while the 550i GT takes some 19''wheels with 245/50 tires in front and 275 / 50 in the rear. The brake discs are autoventilados on four wheels.
Equipment
The 5 Series Gran Turismo Series brings air cushioning in the rear axle, stability control, electric parking brake, parking sensors front (the rear are optional), set "Dynamic Drive Control (controls the adjustment of the dampers, the accelerator, the gearbox and direction), helps the remaining start (Auto-Hold "), fog lamps and brake light of varying intensity. Optionally you can have dual-xenon headlamps with adaptive lighting and daylight (in curves and corners to bend).
You can have many pieces of equipment that brings the 7 Series, the address to the rear wheels ( 'Integral Active Management ") and the suspension system" Adaptive Drive which continuously monitor the hardness of the damping and stabilizer bars . The suspension is independent parallelogram deformable in two axes ..
You can also carry the 'BMW ConnectedDrive, a device that provides information on the status of traffic and allow emergency calls, planning trips and connect to the Internet, or "BMW Night Vision", the night vision system can detect pedestrians and cyclists (the difference from other objects or animals) and to warn the driver.
BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo. Model 2010.Otros optional elements which it shares with the 7 Series is the scheduler function of speed braking, reversing camera, the device alerts involuntary change lanes and the "Side View" which, using two cameras located in the front bumper, next to the wheels, you can see the movement perpendicular. This device can be completed with two other cameras in exterior mirrors, which show the image from a higher perspective.
The Series Gran Turismo 5 can also take four climate zones (standard on the 550i Gran Turismo), various types of browsers, USB, 80 GB hard drive, digital radio tuner, DVD player for passengers in rear seats ( screens are integrated into the front headrests), information system projected on the windshield ( "Head-Up Display), towing hooks and electric panoramic roof (measuring 116 cm long and 94.2 cm wide and extends from the front seats to almost the trunk), among others.
Inside
The interior of the Gran Turismo Series 5 is very similar to the 7 Series. The main color of the carrier can be black, ivory, brown, beige and gray. All versions carry standard upholstery fabric color black, except the 550i GT, which has leather upholstery. Options are leather upholstery fabric and leather or just different colors. Inserts on the dashboard can be metal or wood.
Coatings of the front doors and later still the same line, but are divided by a central pillar. The central area of the lining of the front doors is an arch to make room in the supporting leg, then continued until the end of the rear doors to give way to an armrest.
The dashboard is like the 7 Series. There is a black screen in which all plots are drawn ( "Black Panel"). If contact is not given, only a smooth surface is colored black. The table is slightly tilted forward.
BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo. Model 2010.Lleva a 10.2''screen in the center of the dashboard to display all system functions "iDrive", other equipment inherited from the 7 Series. As it is located on the outputs of the air conditioning system, at the same height as the instrument panel.
All seats have electric height adjustment, tilt and length. The post can be moved horizontally up to 10 cm and are electrically folding backrests. According to BMW, the space for the legs to knee height in the rear seats is equal to the Series 7 and remains open until the roof is similar to the X5. Optionally, the rear seats can "iDrive" and a DVD with a screen in each of the front headrests.
The GT Series 5 is the latest designer Chris Bangle at BMW. Depending on the brand, the goal is to attract potential customers off, and family saloons, whether or not a BMW. The most important markets of the Series Gran Turismo 5 will be Europe and the USA.
