BMW 3 Series coupe

The version of the BMW 3 Series coupe is available with a range of three petrol engines and two diesel, all six cylinders. They are also available with the drive system xDrive total (more) Versions 325xi, 330xi and 330xd. In 2007 there will be versions with four-cylinder engine, the 320i and 320D (list with the full range on sale now). For some markets, not in Spain, there is a 323i with six-cylinder engine, 2.5 liters and 177 hp.

BMW will release a new range of engines in the 3 Series Cabrio (more information), which later will also be available on the coupe.

A 325i Coupe with 218 hp, costs € 40,700, 3200 more than the saloon. Part of this difference is that the coupe has standard features that are optional in the saloon, like xenon headlights (767 €) or rims 17 "(744 €). More comments on the price compared to other models.

Although the 3 Series Coupé is more expensive than other cupés, quality of finish you have and, in general, so it is good to drive, we feel that the relationship between value and price is better than others that cost less . Just leave it to those who seek to recommend a car with a comfortable suspension.

The version we tested is the 335i with a 3.0 liter turbocharged engine displacement and 306 hp (this engine for technical information). It is a unique engine, the 335i that gives superior performance to other models of higher power (including the previous M3, 343 hp) with a relatively low consumption.

With this engine, the 335i accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.5 s and has an average consumption of 9.5 l/100 km. The acceleration is better than the other four seats cupés and consumption is very good (comparison table), as in other versions, the maximum speed is limited to 250 km / h.

But to be good, as their benefits are not impressive, but the response that is smooth and strong in a very wide margin scheme. This engine gives the best of the 3.0-liter naturally aspirated petrol and turbocharged diesel.

The 330i Coupe has a 3.0 liter engine displacement similar to other recent models from BMW, but with more power (more about changing the engine.) The 330i can accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 6.1 s and consumes 8.8 l/100 km. It also reaches 250 km / h.

The 325i is a variant of the engine, but with 2.5 liter displacement and 218 hp. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 6.9 s, reaching 247 km / h has an average consumption of 8.4 l/100 km. The drivers of the 330i and 325i has indirect injection and Valvetronic distribution. Future six-cylinder engines have direct injection and have no distribution Valvetronic.

The 335d Coupé has the 3.0 liter diesel engine with two turbos with the 535d (information on the engine in the 535d), but with an output of 286 hp instead of 272 (more about changing the engine) . It accelerates from stationary to 100 km / h in 6.1 s and the maximum speed is limited to 250 km / h. Approved consumption is 7.5 l/100 km.

The 330d Coupe is the 3.0 liter engine of 231 hp version (such as that currently has the 330d). It accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 6.6 s, reaching 250 km / h and spent 6.5 l/100 km. That is, values are almost equal to those of the saloon (tenth less acceleration).

All except the 3 Series Coupe 335d have a number of gearbox six-speed manual and, optionally, a new auto box, also six-speed (standard on the 335d). As we have seen in the 335i Coupé, the performance of this box is very good for speed and smoothness.

This new auto box can be used by hand with a cam on the wheel (an option which costs € 123), recommended if something is going to make a sport, at least for the 335i.

The touch of the 3 Series coupe is very similar to the saloon, roughly. I have not appreciated that the suspension is clearly tougher and that the car is more nimble, the 3 Series saloon and it is even.

Apart from the fact that it has two side doors instead of four, the body of the 3 Series Coupe has other differences with the saloon, structural (more information), look (more information) and equipment.

The 3 Series Coupe is a four-seater, with a split in the back seat (picture). The rear seats have a width and enough legroom for two adults traveling extensively, but for that role, they lack height. For more than two children are enough, even if they travel on chairs that are bulky.

The trunk volume is 440 l in all versions, except that the 335i is 430 l (your exhaust system is larger). Ie slightly higher than that of a Mercedes-Benz CLK (435 l) and slightly lower than a 3 Series four-door (460 l).

All Series 3 Series Coupé has a button for starting the engine, CD player, sports steering wheel with controls, air conditioning, automatic wipers, xenon headlights for short and long seats and lower than those of the saloon. Several internal factors, such as door handles and gear lever are metal. The coupe debuts six body colors that were not available in the saloon.

Other options include adaptive lighting system with cornering light function, and automatic side lights (more information on its operation), the steering gear and variable speed two possible programs: one is a programmer speed with braking function, the other is an active developer of speed.

The DSC stability control has some new features, such as increased pressure in the brake circuit to compensate for the overheating of the liquid, periodic drying of the discs with pads when connecting the wiper, the function that soothes stopping the car (SoftStop) and the wizard in start ramp (with manual transmission).

In 2007 the 3 Series convertible will sell (which carries a folding hard roof) and the M3, which has an eight-cylinder engine with direct injection and turbocharger.
