Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione

Fact a two-seater coupe is based on Maserati, with front central engine and rear. The design is Alfa Romeo, the production and the main mechanical elements of Maserati.

The bodywork was designed by the Alfa Romeo Centro Stile, the design is very similar to the prototype showed that Alfa Romeo in 2003. The prototype measures 4278 mm long, 1,900 wide and 1,250 high, the dimensions of the car series will not be very different (except height).

Most notable in this body, for the information that Alfa Romeo has given so far, that has a coefficient of aerodynamic lift (Cz) negative. Alfa Romeo does not indicate whether this ratio is negative in the two axes, but in any case, it is difficult for a car without it having prominent wings. The 8C is a discreet integrated spoiler under the front bumper (picture).

The body is carbon fiber and is mounted on steel chassis. There are also structures of carbon fiber elements in the seats.

Have some more common decades ago that now, as the chrome of the windows or round the pair of pilots, but in this case combined with a light mist and a back-up hidden in the bottom of the car (image) .

The main pilot lights are diodes, instead of bulbs. As background for the design, citing cupés Alfa Romeo Giulia TZ and the 33 Coupé Stradale.

The engine is a 8-cylinder V 90 ° Maserati of origin, with a displacement of 4691 cm ³ (today's engines have Maserati 4244). Its maximum output is 450 hp at 7,000 rpm, its specific power, so it is rather high (95.9 hp / l). Its maximum torque is 470 Nm at 4750 rpm, a value is normal for an engine cylinder capacity of this sport (the medium pressure reaches 12.6 bar). The scheme is a maximum 7500 rpm.

It is an engine with aluminum cylinder heads with dual camshafts driven by chain and four valves per cylinder. Phase variation has continued into the intake camshafts.

The clutch is bidisco and the change is with the rear axle (a provision that some call 'transaxle). The differential has a mechanical device to limit slippage.

Automatic change (in our view, is any change that might change without the intervention of the driver more) six-speed.

Has the structure and operation of a manual, but with automatic clutch and for the movement of change.

The driver can choose from five programs of operation: Manual-Normal, Manual-Sport, Automatic-Normal, Automatic-Sport and 'Ice' (to start on a slippery surface).

You do not have a normal gear shift. In the two manuals, the driver can select gears by means of two levers behind the steering wheel (picture). The selection of programs in operation is done with buttons (image).

The suspension is similar to that of a Maserati today, deformable parallelograms in which the two axes of joints and aluminum bushings (image of the suspension in a Maserati). The brakes are ventilated and perforated discs in the rear of the discs are the clamps, which are aluminum.

The extent of the wheels is 245/35 20 "on the front and 285/35 20" on the rear tires have more back to the front pump. Among the active safety systems it has, is a stability control (VDC for Alfa Romeo).

Much of the interior coatings are carbon fiber combined with aluminum and leather. In addition to the space in the trunk, there is a gap behind the seats can take some specific cases (image).

Among the items of equipment that can lead programmer is a speed, a system for parking assistance, start button or by an electric parking brake.

Alfa Romeo used the acronym "8C" during the 30s and 40 to denote cars that had the eight-cylinder engine, designed by the engineer Vittorio Jano (image). The term 'Competizione' is a reference to the 6C 2500 Competizione 'with Juan Manuel Fangio who participated in the Thousand Miles 1950.

The last Alfa Romeo coupe designed for a V8 engine was Montreal, but later there was some version of the V8-engined Alfetta GTV. The last Alfa Romeo coupe with rear was the SZ.
