Corvette C6

The range of the 2008 Corvette was unlike the previous one, mainly by the engine. There are also small improvements in some mechanical elements (more information) and equipment. This model is available in coupe or convertible body, two engines (442 and 513 hp) and manual or automatic.

The new engine (named LS3) gives 442 hp and has a maximum speed of 6,600 rpm (more of the engine). With it, the C6 Corvette accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.4 s with the manual. This figure is the same as the other power sports such as the Audi R8 or Porsche 911 GT3. The coefficient of drag is very low for a car like this: 0.286.

He led the Corvette C6-circuit and to a shorter road. Compared with an Audi R8 or Porsche 911, the Corvette is a car quieter and more comfortable suspension (at least that's the impression I gave on the roads by which he ido). For these reasons, and by the capacity of the trunk, which is very large, it may be one of the sport of these more practical for use in day to day.

When driving fast, the first sensation is that of transmitting a car easy to carry (in what may be a car over 400 hp). By addressing a curve does not feel that transmits the flotation of a front axle 911, the manual six-speed is fast enough and is well guided, but I felt as good as Porsche.

One aspect that I think is worse is resolved traction control and stability. Not because they do not function, that is correct, but because its entry into action too abruptly interrupted acceleration.

On the brakes so I can only say that after several rounds to the circuit (which had two straight in at over 200 km / h) with intermittent stops in the pits after one lap to cool, had a notable deceleration capacity, although the tact and appeared suffered some vibration. I do not know what had happened when driving other models in the same conditions.

If I had to put a label to the engine, would be overwhelming. Whatever progress is maintained and the speed of the motor to accelerate, the momentum is always great. The C6 Corvette's engine gives a maximum torque of 585 Nm, while the Audi R8 and Porsche 911 GT3 is 430 and 405 Nm respectively.

The developments of the gearbox six-speed manual is very long. In the sixth, at 120 km / h is circulated to about 2,000 rpm. The maximum speed (306 km / h) reaches the engine turning 4781 rpm, when the regime of maximum power is 5900. A development that should facilitate such a long travel to sustained consumption rate is low (no Corvette has provided consumption data).

But above all these aspects, some of which can be subjective in the absence of testing the car more closely and make our measurements, in which there is no doubt that the Corvette is the best possible alternative is the price: 72,150 € is a much less than that of any other similar sports. For the price of the Corvette is not available version of the Porsche 911. The Audi R8, Maserati GranSport and the Jaguar XKR are above € 100,000.

Part of this difference can be justified by some details of finishing something worse. I drove the unit, although they were covered in large parts of the skin (it is an option), some plastic trim had improved. Nor me feel as the lever that serves to regulate the inclination of (the rest of the regulations, including lumbar support and adjustment of the lateral were electric) and it seems logical to me that with the setting option in depth steering wheel (optional electric) a lever for height adjustment.

The driving position is good. The driver of above average size not as comfortable as Iran, for example, the Audi R8, a 911 Posch is also better in this regard. The position of the accelerator and brake pedals make it easy to maneuver the tip heel.

On the inside there are small changes in the instrument panel and some decorative elements. Among the new items of equipment there are some auto dimming mirrors and a new remote control that incorporates the key.

The equipment includes xenon headlights, the two climate zones and by the start button.

Can be equipped with the optional Magnetic Selective Ride Control suspension, which includes a variable damper hardness using a magnetically controlled fluid, the projection system of information on the windshield (HUD) or the browser, among others. There is also an option that includes leather upholstery for the two-tone dashboard, seats and door panels.

In Spain, including all versions of the series called 'Z51 package, which includes several changes in the suspension (Tarados dampers, stabilizer bars and springs hardest), the brakes (with 340 mm drilled discs front and 330 mm rear), extra cooling and a limited slip differential.

Changes affecting the exterior appearance of the body color and design of the rims (which are 18 "front and 19" rear). The tires are the Goodyear brand and can circulate for a few kilometers after picha.

Structurally, the range of the 2008 Corvette does not change: the frame is steel with aluminum in some parts of the carrier, the body is of composite material. The suspension is a parallelogram with deformable cross ballestón as elastic element.

The cabriolet version has roof. The system is automatic cabriolet. The coupe version has a sort of removable targa roof (which fits in the trunk), optionally, may be this piece of glass (image).

There is another version of the Corvette, called the Z06 (information from the previous model), which has a different chassis (aluminum and magnesium) plus a more powerful engine with 513 hp. Later goes on sale the ZR1, a version that differs among other things by the power of your engine: 628 hp
